Vinegar-cornstarch mixture is used  to get rid of carpet stains that have dirt, or hard and crusty surfaces. Simply mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of plain vinegar, and rub that into the stain using a dry cloth. After the stain is left for a few days, vacuum the spot to remove it.
